While I was match drilling one of the horizontal stabilizer ribs to
the spar, my drill bit caught and caused a hole that is out of round
(try "egg shaped"). This particular rib attaches to the spar with
three rivets. It is not too bad, but I am not sure of whether to try
riveting it in place as is, or to enlarge the hole and go with a
larger diameter rivet. Any suggestions?

I doubt it's going to matter much, though it depends a bit on how big
the hole has gotten. You could try going for a longer rivet...and
squeezing it a bit in your squeezer and THEN placing it the hole and
riveting. Squeezing it in advance will help it to fill the hole;
otherwise when you go to rivet it, it's likely the shop head is just
going to bend over.

A larger diameter rivet is a good fix for this situation, in my opinion. Be
sure and get some "oops" rivets from Van's for those times when something
happens to a rivet that will show on the outside of skin. Same size head
with larger diameter shank.

oops rivets
Call Vans, order a supply. If you get "long" rivets,
buy a rivet cutter and cut to fit.
