Hi all,
I've been lurking for a while- recently purchased a partially completed RV7
empennage kit and tools from another lister. I invested the savings by
signing up for the EAA RV Assembly workshop in Corona, CA which is being
taught this weekend- hopefully it will help lessen the overwhelmed feeling
I have! This is rather last-minute but I thought I'd ask if there is
anything useful but possibly not obvious to this newbie that I should bring
along? Also, are there any RV-7 builders in the vicinity that might have
time to show off their handiwork?
TIA,
Lars Pedersen

If you have your own tools already (drill, rivet gun, squeezer, bucking
bars, etc.) you may as well bring 'em so that you get a feel for your own
stuff. Can't hurt.
Good choice on taking the workshop...you'll love it. Go easy on Tom...I'm
sure he'd rather be out flying off his hours on his RV-6A. 8^)
I'm located 20 minutes from Spruce. If you want to drop by to see my RV-7
(airframe done, just working on wiring & firewall forward) feel free (drop
me email if you think you will).

Bring cold water. Nah, the Aircraft Spruce building
can get warm, so be prepared, shorts, tee shirts...
Jeans will get muggy... Tom will provide everything
you need. Long days, and allot to learn, but fun. I
took Tom's course this time last year. You'll have a
blast. check out :

Lars,
I attended the January RV Assembly Workshop at Oshkosh. All you need to bring is a pen/pencil, comfortable work shoe (you'll be on your feet a lot) and lunch money. Sportair/Vans supplies everything else.

Best decision you ever made. The workshops are great. You'll start
out, probably, on Friday night sitting around and talking about why
you're building and getting an overview. We were fortunate to have
Ken Scott ("the voice" in the RV Story and editor of RV Aviator)
leading us.
On Saturday you'll make some simple parts and get use to the various
tools and techniques at your disposal. On Sunday you'll make an
airfoil.
By the end of the session you won't have "that feeling" anymore and
if you're not driving home muttering, " I CAN do this" over and
over...while gazing longingly at your little airfoil....I'll be very
surprised.

I took that class and boy am I glad I did. Tom is the instructor and
he is the best. One thing that you may want to cover in a bit more detail
is how to read the plans and understand them. It's a bit confusing at
first buy you'll be able to decipher it easily after a few mistakes :)
Have fun. Oh, you don't really need to bring anything except some plane
building clothes and a notepad and pen.

I attended the RV class in Oshkosh last Oct. You really don't need to bring anything as all the tools needed are provided. A list of questions to ask might be helpful. Our class used everything I use at home except the pneumatic squeezer. If you purchased one, you might take it to get some tips on setting it up. The class is conducted by someone from Van's (we had Ken Scott) and is a must for anyone not well versed in aluminum aircraft construction. You will enjoy it and learn much.
