This may be a repeat question...
Van's sells a 7A FP 0-360 firewall forward kit for about $3200.
I'm trying to figure out 1.)if this is a good deal vs. buying
everything seperately. 2.)if a person like me that has never built
an airplane "better" get the firewall forward kit because it would
be mind-boggling to figure out all the parts needed.
Thanks for the input

All I can say is that I'm glad I ordered the FWF kit. My rationale is that
it would have taken me hours to figure out hose types and lengths and stuff,
to find a source, have the stuff made...then realize that I over-estimated
the length, have one or two re-made, etc. I'm happy not to have to dork
around with hoses and fittings and stuff. This is my first homebuilt as
well.
Something that I definitely would NOT order again is Van's basic wiring kit.
Not the pre-fab'd harness, but the raw materials kit. It's pretty pricey
for what you get. $180 if I recall. I would order everything from B&C or
TerminalTown or whatever...which is what I ended up doing anyway, since
Van's wiring kit doesn't come with squat in terms of wire. Only a handful
of gauges and not too much length at that. I'll bet for the same money you
could have B&C fabricate custom flex battery cables and get a ton more wire,
fast-on tabs, ring terminals, etc.
Just my .000000002.

I purchased the FWF kit and like it very much especially if you are going the Lycoming route. I think the quality of the stuff included is good and saves a lot of time. I purchased mine right along with the finishing kit and QB kit. I am able to incorporate things from all the kits as I progress so I can install things before I close everything up while it is easy to access.

I have to agree with another builders response... the FWF kit it
defenitely worth my time. I've never built an airplane before, so it
would be practically impossible for me to figure it all out.
..my 1 cent worth..

I didn't buy it. I thought I could save a few bucks.
Not sure I would do it again. I am always out of stuff.
I bought the baffle kit from vans. Shopped for a oil cooler.
Measured for hoses last nite.
Shopping for exhaust stuff.
I looked at a Sky Dynamics exhaust system on a -7 yesterday.
I gotta do that!!
If anyone needs a picture let me know.

My opinion is that it was well worth it not having to figure out and track
down the parts.

Sam,
I have to agree with Dan, the FWF kit is well worth it. I'll have very little left from the kit when I get done and although it is very complete you will still be sending in an order to Spruce from time to time for that little part, srews, bolts, whatever that aren't included.
