I'm going to use a Bob Archer wing tip VOR antenna, but I'm wondering if
anybody with an RV-7[A] has managed to use his wing tip COM antenna as well?
Any comments on installation tips?

I'm using Archer antennae for both nav & com. Craig Hamm at Colorado
Composites (and a member of our new EAA chapter) has used these on many
of the plastic airplanes with great success. The latest was a recently
completed Lancair 4P Turbine. His suggestion was to mount the base
element flat and longitudinally to the bottom of the tip with
rivets/screws and/or glass and roll the two connecting elements so that
the top element is vertical. Then secure it in that position. We
fired up my SL30 last week with the antenna in this configuration and
picked up local traffic loud and clear. A transmit check was also
successful. A nav check with the other antenna horizontal picked up the
localizer for MTJ 35 about 2 miles distant and the VOR as well. All
this on the ground inside a metal building off the airport.
