I will be ordering another kit in September 2003. I would really like
to hear your opinions on my next move. I am wondering, if you had to
do it over again, would you build the fuselage before the wings? I
know that you need the wing spar bulkhead for the fuselage. I would
just order it with the fuselage. My thinking is, once you've
completed your wings your store them for a year or two or ....
longer! If you build the fuselage, you could order the finishing kit
and then complete all the time consuming wiring and tinkering till
your hearts content. There doesn't seem to be too much tinkering with
the wing kit, just straight forward build and store. Then you could
order the wing kit and when they are completed hang them on your
airplane. This would also give you more experience in riveting and
save your best riveting for the flying surfaces! What are the pros
and cons? I am anxiously waiting your replies. Thank you in advance.

It sounds like you have it figured out. Build the wings next. They are
easier to store and easier to build. The center section bulkheads come with
the wing kit, because it is drilled to the spars. The fuse requires the
longerons and they are usually shipped in the long box with the spars which
cuts down on shipping. Van's has it all figured out why deviate from the
order of things?
Godspeed,
Phil

If i had to do it over again i would order the fuse kit and quick
build the wings but money is sometimes the issue. My fuse is now
ready for the wings and yes the wings have been built and stored for
a little while. i got my fuse kit right befor my wings where done and
it took me 7 mos to build the fuse/wiring and fwd. it is a very nice
feeling to know that my wings are there ready to go on instead of in
a box.. when the panel and the engine is on the fuse ready to go

Ken,
If there is a way to do it, order the fuselage and the wings quick
built at the same time. By the time the fuselage is ready the
wings will be also.
This is easier said than done with most budgets, but the extra
money spent for QB wings is worth it if there is a way to get it
done. The airplane will fly sooner than later.
