Flight testing of my 7A is complete, and because the airplane is so
predictable, flight testing at times can be boring. That's the good
news. After my last flight, while debugging (not fixing, just
removing bugs)I noticed a small nick at the root of the prop at the
spinner cutout. I figured it couldn't be that bad because there is a
gap all around each blade, as called for in the instructions. I
removed the spinner and to my disbelief, there was a gouge about 1/8"
wide, 1/32" deep, and 2" long where the spinner had dug into the
blade at the cutout. That's the bad news. I called Sensenich and made
arrangements to have the prop reconditioned by them. The fellow I
spoke to didn't seem to think that fixing the prop would be a big
deal. Anyway, the plans call for between 1/16" and 1/8" gap for the
prop cutout on the spinner. I had that one 2" section that was
slightly less than 1/16", but still a noticable gap. I'm now paying
for that small oversight. Hopefully my blunder will prevent a similar
mistake for others.
