I had planned to install a heated Pitot tube from Gretz and purchased
their mounting kit some weeks ago. Now I go to buy the tube and find
that Gretz has dropped their supplier (Aeroconnection?) due to a
rapid and very significant increase in price. Gretz price had been
$249.00. So I look at Aircraft Spruce, Chief Aircraft and others and
find the price of the Aeroconnection unit is now somthing like
$430.95! Talk about ripoff!. Spruce had this thing listed in a recent
catalog for about $155.00 THey won't sell it for that now. At any
rate I'm now very pregnant with the Aero design having attached my
mounting plate and ground out a hole in the skin to fit this thing.
Any body else run up against this? Gretz says he's coming out with an
Aeroconnection clone in August,(at an "affordable" price) but I
don't know how firm that plan or schedule is.
Anybody got any good alternatives?

Try Aero Instruments at 216-671-3133. They used to
make the "Gretz" pitot tube. I got a quote from them
last June of $314.

I'm just mounting my heated pitot from Chief at the
high price of $356.50 for the tube and they charge $75
for the mount which I'm getting chromed for $24,
definitely exorbitant but there you are. Chief's
latest catalog lists the pitot for $308.50 (12 volt)
and $262.50 (24 volt). They said the manufacturer had
recently increased their price and they wouldn't
undercut themselves (no amount of whining helped) so
there you are again! I hope somebody eventually looks
under my wing and says ooooohhh, nice, at least once.
Of course that's not why I got it, but I'll feel
better.
