Greetings to all fellow builders who have contributed their thoughts.
I have gleaned much useful information from you all. I have finished
the RV-7A empennage and am thinking of fiberglassing the junction
between the fiberglass tips and the aluminum skins. Is this correct?
And, if so, is fiberglass tape the best to use? Also, are the tips
riveted or screwed on? Thanks for your help.

Riveting or screws with nut plates is generally used to secure the tips. I riveted mine on. To close up the openings, I made foam plugs and epoxied them in place, followed by 3 oz. glass cloth and epoxy. I then used superfil to contour the area to match the arc of the counterbalances.

Hope this helps.

Ed

This is how I did mine. I am sure there are numerous opinions out
there.

I pop riveted the tips on with flush rivs. Using a 5/8 inch or so
wide backing strip of alum for the pop to grab onto. You can 'super'
glue or fiberglass it to hold it.

Then I used a 1 inch or so wide strip of lightweight fiberglass
glassed into place along the joint.

Finished off nicely.

Always use peel-ply on top of fiberglass. Saves alot of sanding.
