Hi group, here's a good one for you all to make recommendations. I was bending the sharp downward bend at the front end of the longeron and actually broke the horizontal side of the alunimum angle. That resulted from me countersinking the holes for the 721b (I think that's the part number) before bending. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem. I haven't talked to Van's yet to get their take on it. Thanks for your suggestions. TD

You'll need to completely replace the longeron. This is one of the most
important structural members of the whole airplane. Sorry.

The longerons are such an important part to the strength of the
aircraft that you should throw it away and get a new one. Van's
forgot to send me the long angles for the longerons so I bought them
locally. Just make sure you get the right type and that the inside
radius is correct as well. I didnt drill any holes in it until
after "shaping" it

I agree with Ross completely.
If you have a local steel/metal supply yard, you can probably get the
correct angle there. They may have to order it but I would guess it would
still be cheaper than the shipping price that Van will charge. Good luck.

If any of you are in the cities (Minneapolis, MN) and need aluminum stock...Let me know I have lots of it on-hand and can get a real good price on anything...This goes for steel and stainless as well...

There's no doubt in my mind that I would replace the
broken piece if it were me. These are very important
structural pieces and that is why Van's sends them in
one long piece.
Just my opinion, Tom
