Author: "Dana Overall" <bo124rs@...> Time: Sun Feb 1, 2004 5:37 am PST Link

OK, since it is the first of February I'll repost info about the
little get together at my shop on Saturday, February 28th.

I sent emails out to the various RVlists, the Ohio Valley RVators
group, the local EAA, a composite airplane builder's site and just a
bunch of ol airplane friends. The Ohio Valley RVators are using this
particular Saturday as an "official" UFO (Ultimate Fly Out).

In addition, Tracy Crook has faxed me some info on his Rotary
packages. Along this same line, I have spoke with Conversion
Concepts http://www.conversionconcepts.com/rv-6-7.htm about
attending. This is the company I am going with for my custom-built
engine mount. I'll have my rotary 13B there for anyone to criticize
or as an impetus to slap me around for making such a choice.

For what it's worth here is a pic of the state of my 7:
http://rvflying.tripod.com/aero1.jpg

I drafted my oldest son and recruited another 17 year old to act as
taxi drivers, or designated drivers, from the airport or to and from
hotels if you choose to partake in the keg and hooters wings I will
provide. They will haul you around for tips. My shop door leads
into my office, which leads to a bathroom, which leads to the game
room with pool table, fridge and big screen TV. Certainly if you
want to drive, there are numerous hotels within 10 minutes of my
house. If the weather is nice enough, I'll roll the airplane out to
make more room in the shop. I've got the "From the ground up series
on VHS and Team RVs Sun & Fun plus Great Northwest Adventure DVDs. I
also have a professionally done production of a national gathering of
the composite airplane when I was the national gathering host in 1999
& 2000. I'll have these running on a TV in the shop and on the HD
big screen.

In my shop I have everything from a pneumatic squeezer to pneumatic
cleco remover (for sale to anyone attending, great for the wings), my
battery powered Dynon, Garmin 430 and Grand Rapids EIS for any
newbees to see. If any newbees want to play with some tools you
don't have, feel free to grad a piece of scrap alum and work to your
heart's content. There will also be fiberglass people there with a
wealth of glass knowledge to share. I've still got a bunch of carbon
fiber laying around you can play with along with some West System.

My address is 1036 Countryside Drive, Richmond, KY. It is about 10
minutes off I-75 and about 20 miles south of Lexington, KY. Mapquest
will get you to within two houses…………then look for the RV sitting in
the driveway:-).

Dana,
I am considering attending your event.
Can you recomend some of the motels/hotels in your area?? Maybe starting with budget, and ending at high end, (or just create a list, and I will research them) and then your recomended establishment???
I will be driving in from Michigan.

Sincerely,
Kevin H.

Kevin,

I'll make up a list today and post them on the site.

As a heads up, let's hope mother nature lends us a helping hand with nice
weather.

The Ohio Valley RVators, of which I am member are planning a rather large
gaggle of airplanes heading this way (one 7 included in this group). I just saw some posts on the Mid
Atlantic Wing yahoo site about getting some ships together and coming as a
group. I spoke with a fellow from Chicago two nights ago about a 5 ship
heading in from Chicago(there are 2 7s included in this group), one from NC, one from St. Loius, I would expect a
couple from Evansville plus those who will be checking weather a little
closer to the weekend. If mother does her job, I would expect the ramp to
be full of RVs.

There will also be some composite builders here (from my prior life as the
national gathering host in the plastic airplane world:-) and the local EAA
is scheduling this day as their official meeting day.

Should be fun.

Thanks for the info Dana... One last question, (I think...)... What time are you planning on opening the doors, as my drive will be about 7 hours, and I haven't decided if I need to leave friday night, or Sat. morning...

Oh yeah.. the other last question... ;) lol do you recomend any particular motel/hotel???

I think I have my boss interested in attending also, if he can get away. He seems to be interested in those darned composite airplanes! YUCK!! But he may be a future builder, so I invited him.... I hope that doesn't mean I have more work if he decides to build! LOL.. :) ( I do hope you did intend for this to be an open invitation to anyone interested??? If I am outta line, please let me know! Thanks!!)

Sincerely,
Kevin H.

The La Quinta would be the one which would provide the easiest, most direct
route to my house/shop. However eating arrangements are limited to Cracker
Barrel. Any of the ones mentioned near the "Bob Evans" are nice and would
put you directly "in the house" where all the restaraunts are located in
Richmond. These would also provide nice access to I-75 rather than battling
20 stop lights to get past the college, mall, etc. to get to the road that
leads to my house.

Any takers are welcome. Matter of fact, I have some foam here along with
resin. We'll let your boss lay up some glass and then stand there for 5
hours letting it set up. Then we'll give him two pieces of alum, a drill,
couple rivet and a hand squeezer. Let him join two pieces together in 5
minutes. That should evict that plastic demon from his soul:-)
