Hi All,
I was getting ready to close up my VS and the last sentence states that I
should make any necessary access/changes for antenaes, lights, etc.
Ok, I know that my tail light/strobe is going to be on the rudder. No problem
there.
My antenna(s) will be either in the wingtips, belly mounted, etc. So is there
anything that I'm not considering to put into the VS that I should be
considering?
Thanks,

Wouldn't hurt to run a string up through some bushings just in case
you think of something later you MIGHT want to do back there.

Hi Bob,
Hmmm, very good idea. I cut the lightening holes in the reinforcement spar and
I was figuring on cutting a 1/2" hole in the spar in the middle of one of these
lightening holes. Hmmm, or just go through the bottom rib. Is 1/2" big enough
or should I consider 3/4" or 7/8"?
Thanks,

I went through this dilema a little over a month ago. From my
perspective, I can't see mounting anything in the VS because...
1) There is not a lot of room (width wise) to work with under the VS
fiberglass tip.
2) If I go with a rotating beacon, it will just look ugly and make
drag up there.
3) How much and what size wire will I need with whatever I might
decide to put up there and what size should I drill the holes. Is the
grommeted hole too big or small. How am I going to affect the overall
strength of the VS by drilling the holes and....get the picture?
Soooooo not having a plan for what I would put up there, I pulled a
string through the rib lighteners just in case, but realistically, I
doubt that I'll even need/use it at all. I pretty much know how I am
going to equip my airplane. Nothing I have planned really needs this
area anyway. Just my novice mind and 10 cents (or less) worth.

Hi
'squse my ignorance as I have only just started this
project. What is the benefit of the lightening holes
apart from gross weight and would a strobe light be
put on the rudder or the fin??
Regards
Simon (also only just joined this forum and not sure
of protocol etc)

Lightening holes are just that. They make lousy wiring runs, imho.
Give me a hole with a bushing or conduit and I'm pretty sure the
wiring I run won't chaffe.
As far as runnin wiring up the VS at all, my view is why not make
plans for it...run some string up there...run some conduit. You
might not need it now, but maybe "the next best thing" will find
that the VS is the perfect place for some component of it.
I figure we prime our planes based on what we want them to be 30
years from now...but we run our wires based on what we've got right
now.

Hi Simon,
Although the lightening holes don't add up to much gross weight. They do have
a long arm so the W&B could potentially be affected.
When I purchased my Emp, I went with the provision for a tail-light in the
rudder. There was some discussion a several days (weeks?) ago that lights on
the top of the VS tend to shine/reflect into the cabin area.
