Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Landing/taxi lights

I just finished installing the second Duckworks light in my -7A. The
first was installed in the leading edge prior to riveting the leading
edge onto the wing. The second was installed after the wing was
complete (minus wingtip). The installation was not especially
difficult, for anyone who was wondering.
Now for the question: Is there any convention as to which side is
traditionally used for the landing light and which for the taxi
light? I realize that from a practical standpoint, it probably won't
matter much, but I just wonder if there is a standard configuration.
Thanks.

Ward,

Just out of curiosity since you did both...was the light easier to install before or after riveting the wing skin? Curious because I am at a similar point.

Scott,
It was probably a little easier with the leading edge off of the
wing, but not really much of a difference. As far as the wing skins
go, I did my second one with all of the wing skins on, and access was
good thru the landing light cut-out and the end wing rib. I don't
know that it would be any easier with the skins off if the leading
edge had already been riveted on.
Good luck.
