<SNIP>Ok this may be a dumb question, but how do I determine which
side the machined head of the rivet should be on? Is there a rule of
thumb?<SNIP>

I am 4 weeks deep into building both wings concurrently and I also
have seen pictures of builder sites were the rivets are done in both
directions.

Now, according to the MIL specs, the manufactured head should always
be exposed unless specified on the plans or instructions. From
what I can see, I don't think it makes a lot of difference provided
the materials are tight and the rivet is properly set. Also having
the shop head exposed makes it easier to drill the buggers out.

I plan to do the rear spars with all the manufactured heads on the
outside and the manufactured heads in the inside. Try drilling out a
rivet on the rerr spar with the manufactured head in the inside of
those tight skinny ribs at weird angles w/o making a mess.

I have seen websites showing it done both ways and the plans have no
specific instructions other than the rib to front spar attachment
calling for the manufactured head resting on the rib side. So I
will follow the MIL spec route unless the plans say otherwise.

Jose.
