I'm working on my elevator trim servo and cannot find anything on
how to adjust the travel. Do you just set it up so that when the
servo is in it's mid position the trim tab is neutral? If there's
something in the manual or plans that calls this out, I'm not
finding it. Thanks.

Yep, exactly. You could always bias it so that the servo is capable of more
nose up trim than down. I kept it simple and "calibrated" it so that servo
throw was equal in both directions.

I made marks on the servo actuator at full-out and full-in, then measured
and marked a halfway line. Get the servo to that position, rig the trim tab
neutral, you're done.

Don't forget to enlarge the pushrod hole in the elevator if the pushrod rubs
when the trim tab goes to the up (nose down) extreme. I had to file away a
fair bit to get it to clear nicely.

Hope this helps,

Larry,
I just connected my servo to the LED display, set it for neutral on
the display, moved the trim tab to neutral, and connected the shaft
to the tab.

Larry,

I partially agree with the previous posters. I too set the trim tab
so that it was in the neutral position when the servo was centered.
However, with the extra weight I have with an IO-360 Engine and
Harzell Prop, I needed more nose up trim when flying with flaps to
keep the stick forces down. So after the 1st flight, I adjusted the
servo to give me even more nose up and less nose down. I have never
needed to trim the plane with more than a smidge of nose down over
neutral, if any.

Ward & Dan,

Thanks for the good input. I kind of figured that was the way to go,
but to date "kind of figured" has gotten me into trouble.<g>

One thing I did do was make a second hole for the wire in the back.
Even though the threaded rod passed through the hole when fully
retracted next to the wires (which are encased in shrink tube), I
just didn't feel good about something that's metal and rubs/spins
next to the wires. So a second hole 5/16" was drilled above the
other one and a snap bushing with a 1/4" I.D. was installed. Don't
know that it would've mattered, but I feel much better with that
setup and it was easy enough to do.

Thanks again.

I all certified single engine aircraft with the trim in the full aft
position and the aircraft in the rear most cg the plane should seek and
hold the best glide speed. I recommend that this be tested in flight
and the tab adjusted to do just that. Your plane should ALWAYS have
reward stick pressure when flying below this speed.

I'd like to ditto the following starting with "Yep,
ixactly" That's exactly what I did to center the
throw and I also had to remove an lot of material to
get the needed clearance for the threaded shaft.

Best of luck, Robert.
