Today I broke 2000 hours on this project. 2005 hours as of tonight.
My configuration is very "non-stock." You might assume that's where most of
the extra time has been spent. Probably a few hundred extra hours in the
quadrant, custom fuel injection control cables, access panels, custom
airbox, ram air inlet, little doodads here and there, etc. Even so, I think
it's mostly me just being a perfectionist that has drawn it out longer than
others. I'm a little slow. I want this thing to look perfect, or as close
to it as I can get. Lots of little stuff has sucked my time away, because I
haven't been content to take shortcuts. No regrets! I'm very happy with
how it's coming out.
The end is in sight, though. The DAR will be here 3/27, which should give
me ample time between now and then to complete the remaining tasks...which
are basically just calibrating the tanks and firing up the engine.
Of course none of this includes paint (I have no idea when it'll be
painted), and I haven't even touched the gear leg fairings & wheel pants.
Just for reference, I spent 1000 hours building the airframe. Now it has
been over 1000 hours to finish the plane.
All I can say is that I'm happy I haven't rushed things. Take your time, do
it your own way. Just keep at it, and you will finish.

Good Job, Dan!!!! Time sound commensurate with a World Class RV. Looking forward to our First Flights, which may be very close to each other.

Dan,
Some of your hours, no doubt, are because of the excellent
documentation you're performing and the very helpful web site you're
maintaining. It may cost you hours, but it'll probably save the rest
of us a few hours. For that sacrifice, we're all grateful!
Good luck with the remaining work and the first flights!
Martin

A great milestone Dan. We've yet to drive our first rivet in the tail
kit, but I am certain your attention to detail will pay off. And thanks
for the website. Awesome resource.
