Hi:
Untill last June, 13th I was an owner of a Fascination, Germany VLA. I´ve got fire on
board inniciated when a broken scape pipes put on fire the fiberglass engine cowl.
First 10 sec I lost electrical power, no GPS (without AA batteries), no radio and
transponder. Below, a forest with small mountains and no place to land safe. In the
horizon the sea. 7 minutes to get the beach. So much time to fly a smokey plane. I landed
safely, broke the nose wheel and prop. The fire burnned the entire fiberglass airplane in
40 min. Total lost.
I didn´t have a BRS chute. But, you bet: I´ll never deploy it in a situation like that.
Now, I´ve decided for an aluminun airplane: An RV9A-QB.
