Hi All,
This is a question that seems to get alot of varying answers about the
other types of RV's but I have not seen it addressed about the 7A.
>From the people with flying 7A's, have you installed the wooden stiffeners
on the main gear? What has the flying group seen as result of
installing/not installing the strips? What type of surfaces are on the
runways you frequent? I'm at that stage and am squarely perchen on the
fence.
Thanks in advance,
Tom, RV-7A, working on gear fairings.

I put them on and I am experiencing no wheel wiggle or vibration. People have commented on how solid my landing gear is compared to other RV's that do not have the stiffeners. I recommend you put them on.

Tom,
-7A with ~155 hours, no wooden stiffeners. Fly primarily off
paved runway but have been on 4-5 different grass strips of varying
quality. Really haven't noticed any vibrations from the mains that
I think would be cured by stiffeners. Have had a little nose wheel
shimmy from time to time, have to make sure you keep the nose wheel
pivot point greased.
In all honesty, my recommendation is don't do anything extra that
would rob you of flying this magnificant machine one day sooner.
(don't cut corners but the objective is to fly and what a great
flight it is!!! This is from one that totally enjoyed the building
process, even to the point of looking forward to building again
before the first one was complete. Now, how would I ever find the
time to build. That time could be spent flying ((((::: )

The wood stiffeners are shown in the plans. There has been considerable
discussion about the need/benefit of the stiffeners on the other RV models.
