The September 2004 edition of Sport Aviation, page 34, has a picture
of a red and white RV-8. It has a really nice looking cowl latch.
Anyone know what it is made from and how the hinge pin is connected?
It looks to be a cleaner installation than some I have seen.
Thanks,
Ralph Mallicoat RV-7 QB

McMaster Carr has a blind steel hinge that can be riveted to the
underside of the cowl
I attached it this way and fiberglassed both flanges in place.
Filled over the flush rivets on the top side.
It makes a nice installation.
No help on the latches here. I used 2 of the Skybolt quarter-turn
fasteners. Same as on the cowl split.

Ralph,
I think you are talking about the hinge pin cover. I do not know what this
one is made of but check out Dan C's site www.rvproject.com and look at he
Feb 21,2004 page. He made something that looks the same from fibre glass
Hope this helps. Don
