Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Installation of optional Tip-up bracing kit.

Author: "hughpa16" <hugh@...> Time: Thu Oct 7, 2004 9:53 am PDT Link

I am afraid of introducing a warp into the frame when installing this
kit. Any words of advise? Thanks.

It works out fine -- just prevent the thing from twisting when you drill it.
For example, support the sides so they're level with each other when you're
drilling it, and you should be good to go.

And put it this way -- even if you did introduce 5 degrees of twist, the
canopy has enough mass once it's all assembled that it will straighten
itself out as it comes to rest on the roll bar. The stiffener kit does
work, but it's not adding *that* much force that it would bow the canopy out
to one side. I think you'd have to intentionally drill it way out of whack
for anything noticeable to happen.

Just my 2 cents,

Sorry to hop in late on this one. Is this some kind of additional
after-market stiffener kit, or are you just talking about the standards
Vans tip-up canopy hardware?

Since the skin will already be on it would be difficult to induce a warp. As
Dan noted, just drill carefully. This kit is a definite must for tip ups.
