Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Panel and sub panel

Author: "Mike Ward" <mward@...> Time: Thu Oct 7, 2004 8:34 pm PDT Link

I just had my panel built for me at Avionics systems at Leesburg (great work
by the way) and as we planned, there is no room on the panel to connect the
2 supports that run aft from the firewall/subpanel (that attach to the
panel).

I know other guys have done this (filled their panel to this point) and
solved the problem, but before I put any serious thought into it does any
body have any advice... or pictures??

Hi Mike,

Congrats on making it this far in your project. When I built my RV-8
panel I didn't like the design in the plans so I redeigned the panel
as a fold down panel with a hinge along the bottom edge. It worked
out really slick and has made getting behind the panel a snap. I
intend to do something similar on my RV-7A panel but have not gotten
that far yet. Just a thought, as long as you are needing to do some
redesign work you may as well go all the way and make it better than
the original. Just be sure that it is as strong as the plans.
