This has me concerned as well. When I started building the mantra
was "Build it light". Now I am worried about some of my choices.
One of the exceptions I made to the mantra was making the
luggage/seatpans removable, which was time consuming (read installing
nutplates out the ying yang). The idea was have access to the sytems
I mount down there (ELT and whatever else). Not only is this mod now
useless, it will contribute to the aft CG problem I assume I will
have.
I am going with the larger battery up front, mounting the ELT under
the sub-panel and what ever else I can fit under there. That should
help some. Will it be enough? No Idea, I am making this up as I go
along. I am open for suggestions as well.
Hugh "McFly"
PS:Anyone know the weight difference between the large and small
rudder? Yes I am aware of the better spin recovery with the large
rudder and what aft CG does to spin recovery. Just curious about the
weight.
Why are RV7 airplanes coming too nose heavy? Is it just a poor
design from Van's part or was the concept of "inexpensive, light,
fast and responsive" out the door and the plane designed for
expensive prop set-ups?
What can I do to avoid that mess? I'm trying to stay true to Van's
concept of "inexpensive, fast, light, and responsive". Me thinks
adding 26 pounds of dead weight is counter to that premise.

Is the large rudder heavier? Probably. My RV7 that came out light
and with an aft CG (not out of spec mind you) has the SMALL rudder.

To provide some more data for those planning. the heavy prop spacer
for the o-360 Sensenich combo weighs 24.5 lbs. The stock spacer
weighs 4.0 lbs. The Arm for these is 23 inches. The heavy spacer
moved my CG 0.9 inches forward to 79.9 inches. My Rv7 before
weighed 1045 lbs, after 1065.5 lbs.

John: what weight is your baggage compartment carded for?
Is your crank a c/s or f/p only?

All Sensenich props are fixed pitch. My baggage area is now marked
for 95 lbs with myself and my wife on board (350lbs worth of
people... mostly me)
