Does anyone in the group have any experience with the IK-2000 engine monitor. I am leaning toward a VFR cross country panel. My current plan is to have a Dynon 10A as my primary flight instruments and the IK-2000 as my engine/fuel gauges. I'm not keen on the bar graph and digital displays, but the IK-2000 also has an altitude and airspeed readout that could backup the Dynon in the event of an internal failure, and the price is more attractive than some of the more well known engine monitors. Ideas, suggestions?
I would like to mount the Dynon more or less directly in front of where I set. As you know, the F-7107-L is in the way. I am considering removing the lower flange and much of the web of the 7107 from the instrument panel forward to the sub-panel to make room for the Dynon. How have others dealt with this problem?
Thanks

That's how I moved my left panel rib to accommodate an instrument layout
such that the Dynon would be right in front of me and there wouldn't be any
"big gap" where that rib goes.
I'm not knocking the IK-2000, but have you seen the ACS2002?

lot of value, in case you're a freak about wanting to see everything your
engine is doing on one readable screen.

Mike,
I did as you suggest and removed much of the web (also removed less, but
still some, of the F-7107-R to accommodate the ACS2002). I am adding a
stiffener to the remaining web on each side, fabricated out of 3/4x3/4x1/16
and anchored to the now trimmed web as well as the subpanel ( I bent a tab
on the end of the support at a right angle to attach to the subpanel)
Regards,
Joe

Mike,
I am using the IK2000 engine monitor. Unfortunatly I have not flown behind it yet, waiting for inspections. I chose the Ik for a couple of reasons. The bar graphs I feel are easy monitor, and the readout below will give you an exact temp of each egt,cht or will lock on to the highest. My panel is a composite from Laird Owens and the IK is the same size as the radios so it fits nicely into the radio stack. My airplanes mission is the same as yours, VFR cross country, and when my vac system goes then I will probably change to Dynon. Also Ralph at IK was great to work with. Because I was using the composite panel I was only able to use part of the features of the IK, at the time they used two screens, and Ralph recofigured my panel to readout what I needed on a single screen. I believe that their newer products now are on one screen. http://www.ews.uiuc.edu/~decraene/index.htm

Hi Mike,
I agree with Dan on the ACS2002. I've had a chance to fly in 3 planes with
the ACS and it is fantastic. Extremely well layed out and easy to read. I
bought one for my RV and have it in the vertical orientation. Lots of
information including trim, checklists, flaps.....
Regarding the Dynon , I also purchased this after flying is several planes
with it. (I have the 10A). I reviewed Dan's mods to put the Dynon directly
in front and found it to be too much extra work and unneccesary. Of the 4
RV's I've flown in with a Dynon, only one was directly centered. The others
were a 2-3 inches off center. I found absolutely no difference in the
ability to view or interpret the data.
I have a tip up and mounted the Dynon as close to the left panel support rib
as possible. I guess this puts it about 2" off center. NBD!! Afterall these
panels are not very big and the ability to see everything is quite simple.
Don't make a bigger project out of it than it needs to be. Try to fly in
RV's with desired equipment and make an informed decision.
