I just finished mounting the Wings and completed the rear spar mount
drilling along with the tank bracket bolt. I moved on to rigging the
Ailerons which went smoothly. Of course the first thing I did after
completing the Ailerons was to move the Stick Left and Right and
everything was fine until I moved the stick Forward and Back. What I
see when I do this is my Rt Aileron stays put but my Left Aileron
moves up and down 3/8" in both directions. This can't be right. Has
anyone seen this and what was the fix? I swapped out the Push rods
and this didn't help.
Thanks

Did you use the bellcrank alignment tool (provided in the kit) to hold your
bellcrank in the proper "neutral" position while rigging your pushrods?
A little bit of aileron deflection while pulling and pushing the stick is
sorta normal. Geometry dictates that if you pull or push the stick away
from center, you're pulling on the aileron pushrods. Even so, the effect is
minimal, and you should see the effect on BOTH ailerons simultaneously. As
you actuate the stick fully fore or aft, you will see both ailerons actuate
upward a tiny bit.
One other question...do you have the elevator rigged, or are you just moving
the stick fwd and aft until it hits F-704? If that's the case, you'll see a
fair amount LESS fore/aft stick range once you get the elevator rigged.
Anyway, check all of your rigging, have a been-there-done-that builder or a
Technical Counselor familiar with RV-7[A] rigging check your work, and then
if you're still not satisfied, call Van's.

Dan,
Yes, I did use the alignment tool for rigging the pushrods. I figured I would see a small amount of deflection like you mentioned but the difference between the two Ailerons is HUGE. I can't see a bit of deflection in the Right one but in the left, it's got to be almost 1" (1/2" in both directions). If it would have been both I probably would have said "that's normal". My tail section is not installed yet so I am moving the stick through it's entire range. There is defiantly something wrong cuz the Aileron moves with the slightest stick movement fore and aft. It looks like it has to be in the Stick Column (Bent maybe) causing to not track straight.
Today was a Crappy Car day. Was on our way back from Oshkosh (Visiting Parents) and my Idler pulley blew and everything started to go South (Temp, Battery, Power steering) So needless to day we got a ride in a Tow Truck. While we where waiting for the Tow Truck, all I could do was think "If we had the plane to fly, we would have been home and safe by now". It's always something.
I'll check my rigging again tomorrow just to be sure and then call Van's on Tuesday.
Thanks for your help Dan!!
