Thanks in advance, John Paine, RV7A, N77AX, 60hrs.

The simplest one I've seen on an RV-6 is just a u-shaped pin dropped into
two drilled holes, one in the rudder stop and one in the rudder horn. Can't
tell you the diameter. If you do this make sure to put a large yellow or
orange ribbon on to remind you to remove before flight. It is an
out-of-sight place that could get missed on preflight.

I saw a u-shaped lock as described, but the center to
center of the two sides was narrowed so that it put
the rudder in a hard right turn. After making a few
"donuts", the pilot would figure he still had his
rudder locked.

A couple of pictures to visualize the pins. I fabricated
these quickly just for the move to the airport. I wire-
tied them in place just to make sure they didn't come
off on the truck ride. Later, I'll make a nice pair.
It's real easy to tell these are in place when you are
seated in the cockpit. The rudder doesn't move, at all.
But you should still attach a large red flag...
