Home -> RV-7 and RV-7A topic: Rumblings over the Baffle "kit"

You builders out there - (heheheheh...) I just got back from a lovely flight
in my RV7A here on the east coast of australia (surfers paradise) flying at
500' 175kts. Clear blue skies, white sandy beaches, crystal clear seas,
wales frolicking in the waters below me...

Let me tell you one thing - once you are flying all you will think of your
plane is how fantastic it feels to be able to fly a machine like this, and
to own it all yourself and only somewhere far back you seem to remember the
times you drilled your finger tips, scratched your head over the plans
(especially the baffles..). etc, etc.

My kit was also a slow build kit, I have never built a plane before or had
any metal work experience at all) and was halfway throught he fuselage when
I had my first flight in an RV. I got my PPL AFTER the RV was finsihed so I
am not an old veteran that has tonns of aviation experience but with Van's
plans and other builders web logs (and of course this list) I was able to
build this plane without needing assistance through vans or other 3rd
parties.

I guess there are some builders that build because (by necessity) they
really want to fly the plane and there are the others like myself that ask
themselfs through the building time whether they will actually enjoy flying
as much as building. I miss my project in the garage right now but most of
the time I just get over it and drive to the airfield and take her for a
spin.

Blue Skies to all of you :)

Matt,

Reminds of the question: "How do you know when you're in a lift with
an Australian swimming champion?"....

Answer: "He'll tell you!!" :-)

Good to hear your 7 is going well. I fitted the TMX O-360 a couple of
weeks ago and now we're busy fitting all the firewall stuff. Hopefully
by year end...

Regards,
Leonard
