How much of an issue to change out the upper cowl hinges and use camlocks?? on a finished rv7?? I sure don't like those hinges. Any opinions re types of camlocks?? thanks. larry 850rv

when you say upper cowl, I'm guessing the firewall to the cowl joint.
I believe this would be the most challenging. I riveted a strip to
catch the female side of the skybolts to the fuseskin/firewall
flange joint. But I was building the plane then.
figuring a means to attach the .063 alum strip without destroying
the fuse/firewall is going to be a must.
The cowl horizontal split joint should be easier. Its all
fiberglass out there.
just my two cents

How much work? Its all a matter of how bad you want it.
If you can build an airplane from a box of sheet metal, it shouldn't
be much work at all.

It took Skybolt over two months to get the kit to me and it still had
stuff back ordered when I finally got it. That is pretty lame since they
manufacture the parts.
I decided to return the kit since the back ordered parts were not
forthcoming. It took another two months for them to credit my Visa card.
This is the Reader's Digest version, but I think you get gist of it.
Don't take you plane out of service until you have EVERYTHING you need
from Skybolt.

I'm not sure how hard this would be to do. However I saw a RV-9A
underconstruction that had a combination of cam locks and the piano
hinges. They kept the hinge along the top flat portion of the
firewall to cowl joint. This way for quick maint. you could just undo
the cam locks on the sides and front of the top cowl and open it up
like a car hood. Great idea in my book.
