Hello group -
Has anyone had a problem with the W-414/413 aileron hinge bracket?

After match drilling, deburring, sanding, etching and priming I have
all 4 brackets clecoed together ready to rivet, when I noticed a gap
between the plates that hold the bearing. It appears the holes for
the bearings were not machinged deep enough. The gap itself may not
be a problem, but the bearing is flush or maybe slighly recessed. The
washers that sandwich the bearing rub on the bracket. Checking the
shoulder thickness in the holes on all 8 brackets I found only a few
to be the same, ranging from .035 to .042.
Van's claims they haven't had any complaints on these parts, but would
send new ones if I wanted. Will the new ones be any better? I would
like to fix what I have and move on.
I thought I might deepin the holes with a 5/8" wood forstner bit on a
drill press and/or enlarge the hole in the bracket so the AN-960
washer will pass through.
Would appreciate help from those who have been here. Those who have
not check the brackets and let me know.
Thanks in advance
Jim Kirks
