Van's test flew their new RV-9 yesterday. Yes.....tailwheel.
I'll report more info when I get it.

Doug,
Did you happen to see if the main gear slopes back from the motor
mount as on the RV-4/6/7, or does it go straight down from the
firewall ala the RV-8? I hope its the former.

It appears to be the former. See

The 9 landing gear is mounted in the engine mount, ala RV-6/7, but it
is not an RV-6/7 engine mount. The geometery had to change because
the 9 wing is different, and it is the wheel/wing relative
placement that is important. Incidentally, the RV-8 landing gear
comes out of the fuselage well aft of the firewall, which is why
taildragger 8s require more work, weight and structure in the
forward fuse than the 8A.

Thanks, I've been shown the error of my ways by several others on the
RV-8 gear placement faxpaus ;>D. So happy to see the gear sloping
back on the RV-9. Couldn't care less if its not precisely identical
to the RV6-7 or not. Its close enough for me and looks great!
