Home -> RV-9 and RV-9A topic: scrap sheet metal

Author: "build9a" <eckdahl@...> Time: Wed Mar 13, 2002 1:11 pm PST Link

I am working on the HS and am preparing to dimple/countersink the
skins, spars, and ribs. Instructions say to use a piece of scrap
sheet metal to test the depth of the countersunk holes for the spars.
Is the trim bundle that was sent with the kit (various rectangular
sheet metal pieces) scrap material or will this be needed to fabricate
some part that I haven't read about yet? thanks

I don't recall using any of that trim bundle for anything in construction of
the emp. I remember using one piece for the purpose you are describing.

There's plenty of spare metal in the trim bundle, but it's always nice
to save as much of it as you can. A test strip for dimpling doesn't
need to be very big, and it's a very useful thing to keep around. I
suggest you cut a thin strip about 0.75" wide and dimple one end for #8
screws, the other for #4 rivets, and maybe even a #3 rivet in the
middle. Toss it in the toolbox!
