I have test hung the right aileron on the wing just to see how it
lines up. I can get the up position travel OK. I can also get the 17
degree down travel but that's all, as the leading edge of the aileron
rubs against the top skin in the down position. I haven't
permanently installed the aileron, but was wondering if the rubbing
on the down travel is OK. Any guidance out there? thanks, as usual.

Jack,
They can only be adjusted once the wings are installed and BOTH
alerons are installed as the stop on the opposite aleron controls the
travel distance.
Check out the alignment procedure for the alerons and flaps.
