I have to admit, fitting the W-925-B to the W-925-A Flap Bracket has
me baffled.
Plans/instruction call for one end of the W925-B to be under the
spar, match drilled and countersunk to match the dimpled hole in the
rear spar and flush with the wing skin. Fine, but now the W-925-B
has a .040 gap between it and the skin at the edge of the rear spar
flange.
I must be head up and locked - I can't believe Van's intended a gap
there so I'm obviously missing something but sure don't see it.
Any help with this little detail would be most appreciated.

You need to hold the face of W-925B Flap Bracket in alignment with the flange of the W-910 Inboard Wing Rib while match drilling with the holes in the W-925A Flap Hinge Bracket. This will put W-925B in the proper position so there will not be any gap between it and the Skin. Van's does not want a gap here.
The off-set in the end of W-925B should allow the proper alignment on the aft end and you can adjust where the forward end is before drilling. If the .040 gap is at the aft end, you may have to adjust the off-set a little, or perhaps the countersink for the dimpled rear flange is not deep enough.
