My Dad learned to fly back when there were few or no tricycle gear
civil aircraft. He said when the first one's came out he heard them
advertised as the, "land-o-matic", system (or some such). When I
told him I was thinking about going tail dragger, he was surprised.
His viewpoint (after learning on tail draggers) is that the tricycle
system was developed to solve the problems everyone had with tail
draggers. Why go backwards?

Of course not to start it all over again, but my
Grandfather that was in the Air Force from WWII until
about 1980 had about the same comment for me when I
was deciding between the two. His comment was simply,
"They fixed that problem".
