Can anyone point me to a book on avionics interconnect protocal? I
know that RS232 is used to connect many of the units together, but
what is sent from one to the other? How can you tell if something
that is output from "Box A" will be usable by "Box B"?

Kent,

UPSAT Installation Manuals contain this type of information. Most manuals
are available on-line in pdf format. For example, check Appendix B in this
manual:

http://www.upsat.com/dwnlds/cnxdoc/560-0982-00_CNX80_Install_Manual.pdf

Note: Appendix B starts on page 115.

Approach Systems is also a good resource. They make a very nice Avionics
Hub, but also seam very happy to answer any questions you have.
