Hello All,
Now that I have decided on building the Rv9, I am trying to decide on
what engine I should use? The 0235 is very plentiful and very
inexpensive and a midtime 0320 that I can purchase for an acceptible
price (3X$ the 0235) but can't decide which way to go...economy or
performance? can someone please enlighten me with some real life
performance figures, I have been told that vans perfomance figures
are a littel on the high side for the 9, Is this true?

I flew Van's RV9A, N129RV last week. It sports an 0-320 with a MT 3 blade
prop. The take off roll was maybe 300 feet, with a climb out just as
impressive. Reaching the advertised 186 mph cruise was effortless, and the
throttled back, 150/60 mph maneuvering cruise was using half the fuel of my
C-172. Stalls and slow flight was very docile and easy to managed. The RV9
is the funniest, easiest airplane I've ever flown. Go for power and
performance, 0-320 160 hp, or Subie 165 hp. It depends on what your flying
needs will be.
