Those with an interest in alternative engines might like to consider looking
at the belt drive alternative. I fly an RV6A with the Belted Air Power
drive coupled to a 4.3 liter Chevy V6 Marine engine. I get the same
performance that my buddy gets in his IO 360 (180hp) RV6 tail dragger and
about the same fuel burn around 8 gph. Mine sounds a lot better though :)
Also, I can burn auto fuel if I like....

The best part is the cost. Brand new engine for $1800. BRAND NEW! Total
installation cost under $7500 I believe.

210 hours total time and no problems. Very simple ignition and fuel system
on mine dual point distributor holley 2 BBL carb with mixture controll
added.

Check out BAP:

Ned, Can you share your weight and balance info with this group?
The last time I checked out the BAP solution, it looked like
full tanks were not possible with two standard pilots on board.
I know the aluminum block motor helps, but is rare and more
expensive. What are you running?

Ned...

Very interesting...

How much does your Chevy installation weigh? What is the empty
weight of your airplane?

Thanks

Dan

Ned,

I have a very good friend flying a Mustang II with a similar set up
except his is a Vortec Chevy. His performance is awsome and
he is not using near 100% power.

Ned,
I saw a "different" sounding RV6 take off just before the air show one day
at Osh last week. Some fellas within ear shot said it was a Chevy 4.3
conversion. Any chance that was you?
