Question about the holes to be cut for the steps.
The manual says to cut the hole in the F-725 baggage ribs to 1 5/8 but
the drawings say to cut it to 1 1/2. Measuring my step weldments, the
1 1/2 obviously aint gonna get it but 1 5/8 seems a little too big.
What did you all do?
Thanks,
Sam

Sam, The hole in the ribs is just to let the tube pass through. There
is no support on the ribs, only on the block on the inboard rib where
the tube attaches to

Sam: Just my opinion after installing the steps a while back. I
don't think that the hole size is critical. It only serves to allow
the step support to pass through and be attached to the next rib
toward the center. The rib with the hole bears little if any weight.
The attachment at the skin and inner rib do all the work. Now if you
make it too big it might? compromise the strength of the rib. My
suggestion is to not worry about 1 5/8" or 1 1/2". Make it just big
enough for the step support to pass through. I had the QB and had a %
#$&* of a time cutting the hole. See what other builders say and go
forward. Jack RV9A finish kit.
