Home -> RV-9 and RV-9A topic: Manual trim question

Author: david edgemon <dedgemon@...> Time: Tue Aug 12, 2003 6:10 am PDT Link

For all you manual trim folks out there.

I want to disable the button so that I don't potentially move the trim
tab a LARGE
distance at once. Question is, how do you disassemble the blasted button?

Has anyone figured this out?

Thanks!

All you need to do is put a single pole switch in series with the wire
coming from the fuse or circuit breaker. If your trim moves to fast you can
get a Mk. III governor that lets you adjust the speed of the trim servo.
I find that during transitional training pilots that have never used
electric trim have a lot of trouble using it. They hold the button to long,
and about half the time they go the wrong way with it you just pulse it
instead of pushing and holding it. I have my governor set so the servo
moves very slow on the ground, but at cruise speed it is very sensitive. It
just takes some getting used to it. After a few hours you will really like
it.

Sam,

I would have thougth that the sensitivity would be just the opposite.
Small changes when you are going fast and larger changes when you are
going slow.

There was something about this in the RVaitor last
year. You pull the rubber boot off the top and remove
the pin. Looked pretty easy when I read it last year.
I'll take a look at mine tomorrow at the hanger.

I think that's what you asked for

Congratulations to Cameron Kurth for acutally reading the post well
engough to realize that I was asking about the MANUAL trim system.
Not the electric trim. :-) Thanks.

I actually found the aviator blurb last night. Apparently you just drill
a hole through the shaft right under the knob and stick a split pin in it.
It makes sense because for the life of me I don't know how to take the knob
assembly apart without really screwing it up.
