I was wondering if those of you on this list who are flying either an
NSI or Eggenfellner in an RV (specifically an RV-9A) can tell me where
your batteries are located. With a lycoming, the battery is attached
to the engine side of the firewall. The current plan for battery
placement with the NSI package is on the cockpit floor in the space
between the pilots and passengers legs. Since the Subie is much
lighter than the Lycoming anyway, I'm concerned that having that much
weight sitting that much closer to the CG is going to make the plane
imbalanced.

I have an Eggenfellner engine package in my RV-9A and the batteries are on
the engine side of the firewall. CG is right in the middle and empty
weight is about what Van's says. You might want to check with your engine
manufacturer about weights; a Subaru package should end up weighing about
the same as an O-320 with metal prop.

Eric,

My RV-9A with Eggenfellner Subaru normally aspirated has the Odessy
batteries located on the engine side of the firewall. So far, only
one RV-9A has required placing the batteries anywhere else and no one
can understand why he is 100 lbs heavier on the nose than anyone else.

As far as CG issues go, I can not get into an aft CG unless I
seriously overload the plane.
