Home -> RV-9 and RV-9A topic: Wing attach question

I am fabricating the T905's (left and right). The shape that fits
into the nose rib has gone remarkably well and I'm pleased with the
fit. The "bell curve" shape on mine is crude but I *think*
satisfactory. In looking ahead at the preview plans it appears the
T905's mate to F996-A's in the fusalage and are bolted to them. If
anyone that has attached their wings is reading, I'm curious how
critical the shape of the T905's actually is. It would seem that if
the wing rib shape is a bit large it could fit very well but would
move the "bell curve" part of the angle rearward a bit. This might be
inconsequential if the F996A is fitted in place. My T905s are perhaps
1/16" or less (probably less) large in rib shape and like I said the
"bell curve" shape I think if functional but crude. I plan to put
another hour or so in tweaking the parts but before I quit I'd like to
know how critical the dimensions are since I don't want to create
problems down the road....and the instructions are rather silent on
tolerances here. Thanks.

Don,

The mateing part is a drill to fit piece. I had to make some bends
in mine to get them to line up and still have enough meat in font of
the angle. Mine almost came to close to the side that extends toward
teh tank. No great rocket sience here but shorter on the t905 would
probably be better than longer.

If you are looking ahead then you see that the F piece is drilled to
the vertical stiffner in the fuselage. As long as you can get the
two to mate surfaces between the tank and the fuselage, it will
work. All it is is a support for the nose of the tank and a little
support for the wing.

Larry,

Thanks for the information. It confirms what I *thought* was going on
but wasn't sure.

As an aside, building these tanks sure is a slow dragging process. Up
until now everything moved right along but this step seems to taking
forever to finish...looking ahead though, closing the wings up is next
and it looks like it's going to make up for this slow spot...will be
ording the fuselage this week (finally settled on a slider...so far).
