In several RV builder´s sites I've seen that some builders create
inspection holes which doesn't exist on Van's kit or plans.
I am thinking in doing the same thing, especially on the forward
upper skin, to have future access to all the electronics and cables
that will exist between the instrument panel and the firewall.
- Is there any structural problem in doing two inspection holes,
let's say, 4" x 4", on the F-7106 fwd top skin ?
- Making the cover plates I know how to do it but, how is the
recess made on the perimeter of the hole in the skin ?

Carlos,
Most folks cut the opening something less than the distance between
the second bulkhead and the firewall in width and maybe 6 inches in
height. They then make a ring to go behind the skin that is about 1/2
inch smaller opening and about 1/2 inch larger than the hole you cut.
This acts as a backing plate so you can install platenuts or camloc
fasteners for the access plate.
Example: cut opening that is 4 inches by 6 inches. The ring would be
3 inches by 5 inches inside and 5 inches by 7 inches outside. This
will give you 1/2 inch to rivet the ring to the skin.
You will need to be sure exactly where your windshield comes to. On
mine, it went past the second bulkhead a bit. You don't want it to
overlap the nice hole you just cut into the skin.
