Hello group,

Question... I just got to the point where the skeleton is clecoed
into the right skin. The most inboard rib (the one at an angle with
the 909 shim on the forward edge) now has a gap at the rear edge
where it gets riveted to the rear spar. I'm talking about a gap 2
times the thickness of a 909 shim. Is it ok to just fabricate a
couple of extra shims, place them in there and put an extra long
rivet in those three holes? I must admit being a bit perplexed at
why a gap is there at all...all the other holes line up perfectly!

Thanks, Wes Jones

Wes,

I'm not aware of anyone else having the problem you described. I
think something else may be wrong, perhaps you have the rear spar
installed backwards (flange facing forward) or perhaps the rear spar
doubler is installed on the wrong side of the spar (flange side). I
can't think of anything else that would account for the gap you have
described.

Is the rib straight? If it won't lay flat on a table, you might gain
some length by fluting it until it will. If that's not the problem,
try a different rib. You can re-bend the front and rear flanges on
those without a worry. If that doesn't work, let us know and we will
come up with some more ideas! It might also help if you could post a
picture.

Wes , You should find the HS-906 Rear spar doubler will fill this space.
Check that
a) you have the HS-906 on the right side of the HS-903 spar ( not between
the flanges)
b) that you have the spar the right way round ( flanges aft)
