Hi all:
I'm trying to fit in the W-919 Joint Plate that joins the leading
edge of the wing with the fuel tank. There is absolutly no room for
it to fit between the rib and the skin. My 919 is looking pretty
scratched up and when I do get it to fit the rib is obviously not
fully in place. I've tried to bend down the tabs at the front of
the rib to no avail yet. I bet this will eventually work. I'm
interested to hear how others have faired.
Thanks

I just installed these a couple of weeks ago. They are tight, but they
will go. Work on the nose of the undrilled rib with your scotch brite
wheel to take off all the corners. Make sure the leading edge skin is
clecoed to the spar well or you will wind up pulling it up during
installation of W-919. I clecoed the base of the rib to the spar, pulled
the nose of the rib out from under the skin slightly, inserted the strip
and worked the rib and strip in together. There has been some recent
discussion on the dimension to leave hanging out. I don't remember the
dimension so check the archives.

Some random advice now that my second joint plate is in.
My first one was really bad, just like you describe. Second
one just slid into place with only a few taps.
1. Lubrication helps
2. debur joint plate very well, almost to the point of beveling the edge
3. pre-bend joint plate using rib as a template
4. use the directions and dimensions in the documentation (not the
ones on the plans) for centering the plate and rib. I used just
slightly under 1/2" for the drill line to give a tiny bit more edge
distance for the platenuts.
5. If it still doesn't want to go in, you could try first pulling the
rib out to admit the plate, and/or removing a few skin-spar clecos
near the rib.
