Home -> RV-9 and RV-9A topic: spray can primers

Author: "jlwright72601" <jlwright72601@...> Time: Tue Mar 23, 2004 5:59 pm PST Link

What are some of you using to prime small items? I tried to find a
self etching primer in a can but so far haven't. The ones Wicks and
Spruce sell require a conversion coating. I am using Sherwin-Williams
wash primer for most everything, but sonmetimes you just need a small
amount. Any help would be appreciated.

Jim,

Dan C. uses Sherwin Williams GBP-988. I've been using SEM Self
Etching Primer (Part No. 39683). Just call around to the local
automotive paint suppliers, you should be able to find one or the
other.

Jim,
Check these out.
http://www.x-actoblades.com/preval/preval.htm

I use them for my small jobs. I just mix a small amount of the
Sherwin williams wash primer, put it in the jar and spray.
This site is a little pricey (I think I bought mine from hands on
tools handsontools.com) I have also seen similar type items in the
paint department at home Depot.

One more mystery solved. We have a local auto supply that can get
the Sherwin-Williams GBP-988 for me. I have a friend that just got
his empennage for an RV-7 a few days ago and we both need this
product.
I have riveted about three hundred flush rivets and am getting the
hang of it. I am really enjoying the process of building and even
making tools. I built a C-frame and finished it today.
Thanks for the help.
Later
Jim

Jim

I'm using #7220 NAPA available at any NAPA automotive store. Turned
on to it by a fellow RV'er with an -8 and -7 both flying.
