Fellow RV-builders,
I really want a left hand throttle control in my RV, but also recognize the advantages of having a center throttle, mixture, prop control etc. So to solve this conflict I am designing a dual throttle control in my RV-7A. I would like to know if any of you fellow builders might be interested in this dual approach. Please contact me at pmerems@experimentalaero.com.

DL,
I just sent this email out to over a dozen RV builders who expressed interest in the dual throttle.
Fellow,
RV builders. First I want to thank all of you for your input and interest. I am sending a global email because of the large response I have gotten.
I am currently working on my RV-7 fuselage (slow build) and am months away from being able to layout the dual throttle control in my RV. However I will begin designing the system on my computer in the next few weeks. My goal is simple, design a light weight dual throttle control that can be simply installed and or retrofitted into RV-7/9. If successful and satisfied with the installation, I may consider manufacturing a kit so that other builders can benefit from the design.
Current design concept includes:
1. Welded torque tube
2. Nylon pivot blocks
3. Pushrod
4. Flex push pull cable
As a mechanical design engineer by profession (Defense industry) I always am looking for simple improvements to tools and components for RV's. The DRDT-2 is one example of my efforts. For those not familiar with the DRDT-2 it is a alternate dimpling tool to the impact c-frame dimpler. You can read about it on www.experimentalaero.com.
I will keep you posted through email as my dual throttle progress continues. If you know other builders who might be interested in the dual configuration, please have them email me and I will ad them to my email list.
Once again, thank you for your interest and suggestions.
Sincerely,
Paul Merems

I;m a little confused why you want to go through all the trouble of duel throttles,
I just mounted my throttle in the middle so I can fly it from the right or left seat
that's as simple as it gets

Jerry,
My concern is that I am right handed and not so coordinated with my left. I do not want to fly from the right seat in order to have the throttle on the left. I don't mind having the controls mounted in the center, it is a rather straight forward installation, however I can see a time where having a left handed throttle might be very nice (formation flight, aerobatics, chasing F-16's through the sky). So I am considering having both. Going through the design effort doesn't bother me, I do this sort of thing for a living. If there are others who would like a dual system, then my efforts might benefit them as well.
