Home -> RV-9 and RV-9A topic: W-918 Aileron Push Tube Length

Author: "Kelly Johnson" <aeroncapilot@...> Time: Mon Apr 25, 2005 3:43 am PDT Link

Hi all:

Drawing 15 shows the aileron pushrod assemblies (W-918s). They show
the distance between the centerlines of the rod end bearings but not
the length of the tube itself. The view of the W-917 shows both
dimensions, however.

I can't think of a reason not to have both dimensions on the W-918
view. What length do we cut that tube?

Thanks again!

I'm THIS close to being able to put the wings aside and moving on to
the fuselage.

Kelly,

I took some advice from another builder. I put a threaded rod end in one end
of the uncut 918 rod and put the bearing on half way then measured the
distance from the center of the bearing hole to the tip of the 918 rod. It
came out to about 2" if I recall correctly, so I cut the rod 23 1/8". I
think there is very little adjusting required when getting the aileron to
center up correctly - a little turn of the rod bearings in either direction
makes a big aileron adjustment, so centering the bearings on the threaded
rod ends makes sense.
