I am about to mount my com and Xponder antennas. These will be the only
antennas on the belly, at least for the moment. The nav antenna is in the
wingtip but I may add GS and MB later. I was wondering about locations you
may have used and and their success. I am considering mounting the com
antenna (bent antenna from SteinAir) in the area below the fuel selector
and the Xponder as far forward as possible and would like some good tech
advice. I would think these locations would be far enough apart, but could
mount the com farther back.

Bob: I fretted over antennae locations for months before going ahead
and drilling the holes. I had heard about gear leg shadow
interference and other grimlins. Here's what I did mainly because I
didn't want to cut off the coax fitting and run the wire through the
wing spar box and put a new fitting on it. weak excuse, I know. I
mounted my com antennae directly below and in front of left seat. it
is out of the way and
next to the gear leg mount weldments in front of the wing spar where
I can't accidently step on it. I have a Garmin 250XL gps/com which
has only 5 amps of power (whatever that means) and I have had no
problems hearing anything and transmitting as well. I can't give you
distance but I am hearing transmissions coast to coast in florida.
20 miles out has been no problem communicating with the home tower.
The transponder is on the right side directly behind the wing spar
box. Works great. Passed the transponder test. Good luck, Jack
90508 flying.

Bob,

I put my transponder antenna right below the fuel selector and put my
COM antenna on the center line underneath the elevator push rod about
half way down the tunnel in the baggage compartment. (That make
sense?) I wanted a balanced 'look', so they are inline with each
other.
