Just got this email...

Dear Matronics Email List Member,

Without advanced warning Matronics' DSL carrier, Covad, disconnected
our
Internet connectivity in preparation to transition service from the
defunct
FirstWorld.Net to the new Covad.Net. While this transition was
planned, no
schedule for the cutover had been discussed with Matronics and
Covad.Net
had indicated that they would contact Matronics prior to the cutover
to
iron out any details such as Domain Name Service (DNS).
Unfortunately,
this transition occurred on Tuesday morning August 7, 2001 at 12:15am
quite
unannounced and unscheduled. By late Wednesday afternoon 8/8/01,
connectivity had been restored on the new ISP, however no
arrangements had
been made. Previously undeclared in the transition plan, Covad.Net
does
not provide Domain Name Hosting like FirstWorld.Net even though they
sell a
"business-class" DSL service. This is analogous to someone changing
their
phone number, but not telling anyone what the new number is. They
would
have connectivity outbound, but nobody would know how to initiate a
call to
them.

In light of Covad.Net's failure to provide a full-featured business
account
including Domain Name Hosting, Matronics is transitioning to yet
another
ISP called "Speakeasy.Net". Speakeasy.Net does provide Domain Name
Hosting
as well as a number of other features that Covad.Net does not.
Pricing
will remain the same between all three ISPs.

The DNS root server configuration for the Matronics domains,
matronics.com,
matronics.net, and matronics.org has been completed as of Thursday
8/9/01
and the transition of connectivity to Speakeasy.Net should occur
sometime
between Monday 8/13 and Wednesday 8/15. DNS machine name
configurations
should be complete prior to the cutover. Normal Email List and Web
Server
service should be available as soon as the cutover is complete.

I will post another message to this email distribution as soon as
service
has been restored. I truly apologize for the complete lack of
announcement
on this transition. I was under the impression that Covad would
provide
some sort of transition schedule which I would be able to share with
the
List Members some time prior to the actual cutover. I had no idea
they
would simply disconnect the service and clean up the mess later...
Ack.

For now, you may reach me via email at this address:

dralle@s...

Following the successful transition to the new ISP, my normal
matronics.com
email address will be restored.

Best regards,

Matt Dralle
