Home -> Vans Air Force topic: Van's wiring conduit

I sent for some of Van's wiring conduit and it should be here sometime this week.  I had read somewhere where someonehad drilled holes in their main wing ribs that were just smaller than the OD ofthe conduit and then squeezed the conduit in through the holes so that it would 'snap' in on the corrugations of the conduit.  I like this idea but I would like to drill those holes tonight and I don't have the conduit yet.  Can anybody tell me what size I need to drill that hole??  Also I intend to drill it on the trailing edge of the rib toward the bottom.  Any gotchas????

Another question while I've got ya.  I intend to have a nav receiver antenna, strobe, landing light and position light inthis wingtip.  Should I run those wires together?? I would imagine not, so now my question is which one/two do I segregate?

Another idea that I personally like much better is to use a piece of cheap
PVC piping from the local home improvement center and use it for conduit in
the wings.  This way it is smooth and the wires slide right in.  I prosealed
mine in place and it ain't goin' anywhere.

Also, if you drill the holes smaller than the conduit, you are going to have
one heck of a time fishing 10' of conduit through each hole all the while
trying to squeeze it down.  I tried To do this on the short run through my
fuselage to the tail and no way was it going to go.

To answer your question, the conduit is 13/16" (just larger than any Unibit
I've found).  I tried to drill 3/4" with my Unibit and the conduit wasn't
going to make it through.  I had to enlarge the holes to 13/16" and the
cooregation of the hose keeps it snug in each bulkhead.

Good Luck!
