Mike,
The only news is that I've had additional conversationswith Steve Taylor, AITI's chief engineer, about the next generation product which is due in October. I gave him several design revision suggestions after flyingwith it for 60 hours or so. He was very receptive and seemed to take my suggestions seriously. I'm not sure it's worth going into all the suggestions here since what really matters is that the next gen product incorporate them. Perhaps the chief complaint about the current unit however is the poor screen contrast. This is at the top of their list and the new unit is based on a completely different screen with much improved contrast. Then they are tweaking the software andthe display to further improve things and give the user even more options for customizing data display. Also, while the present unit provides software calibration for airspeed and altitude, it doesn't for OAT. Mine is off 6-8 degrees. Steve seemed surprised because they "thought all their temp probes were accurate" but said incorporating software correction was easy and he'd see that it got in. I don't want to steal their thunder but they have several neat enhancements in mind.
At this point I still believe that the ADC is indeed a more modern MicroEncoder and am glad I made the swap even with the present generation. Once I receive the new unit I promised Steve I'd do a full and thorough review and post it to my web site.
All that said let me reiterate that I still think the RMI uEncoder is a great product, a great value, is very accurate, and the company support is excellent. Still, it is a 15 year old product that does not take advantage of the lastest graphic presentation technology.

Randy, I was curious how the replacement instrument that you installed for your RMI uEncoder is working. Can you tell us about the cost vs performance of the uEncoder? Would you do it again and do you like the instrument.
