I figured somebody would see the inaccurate percentage numbers (see
text at bottom).
The polls are real simple to create and as such aren't very
flexible. It would be nice if they allowed 'groupings' where the
percentages would reflect more accurately, but what can ya do?
We could create a SEPARATE poll for each type of question and that
would solve the problem. Examples:
One poll for 'What type of propeller'...
One poll for 'RV-6,7,9 Builders: Tip Up or Slider?'...
etc.
There's no reason not to do this, and anyone can create the polls,
I just didn't what to overwhelm everyone with polls (and I was
feeling lazy). I figured just by glancing at the bar length people
could get the picture for that area (more or less).
On a related note I talked with Bernie Kerr on the phone last night
and he suggested a series of polls dedicated to product reviews. An
example we talked about was a poll that lists the autopilots RV folks
that are already flying generally use. Using the autopilot idea as
an example, the format I was thinking was along the lines of...
For people with FLYING RV's Only please answer the following:
Navaid for example
- I love it and would buy it again
- It's okay (it'll do)
- I would not buy it again
S-Tec autopilot
- I love it and would buy it again
- It's okay (it'll do)
- I would not buy it again
The down side of putting all of the autopilots in this example in one
poll and giving people (6) choices is that the percentage numbers
will be meaningless. The up side is that all of the autopilots would
be in ONE poll and you chould QUICKLY surmise just by glancing at
length of the the bar graph what public opinion is on all of the
popular products. My personal opinion is the second, meaningless
percentage numbers but accurate bar lenthg representation, is the
better way to go.
Just idle lunchtime ramblings.... Comments welcome.

The best way to do groupings is to do a series of polls... That way
you could see who chose A Lycoming O-320 over an O-360 for example.
It would stay seperated. Like 'RV Options Pole #1'
Just a thought.

Good point, Bruce. I gave this very topic some more thought in the
last two hours and created three new separate polls in the RV6 online
community that are VERY specific (tip/slider poll, a
nosewheel/tailwheel poll, and a metal fixed/wood/constant speed prop
poll). Having polls that are model specific, I guess, should really
live in the respective model online communities. The 'generic'
polls, like autopilot reviews, probably should be done on
the 'vansairforce' online community.
We'll get the hang of it someday. It's a learning process.

I noticed that although there are 332 members now, there have been 821
votes cast in the "Options" poll. Interesting . . . .
Would a member of this list vote more than once? Would every member of
this list vote more than once?

I think it tallies all the votes and since one would normally select
multiple boxes, the total tally is incorrect.

If you wantto view and not skew results, the poster of the poll can create a check item that's [ ] View Only.

I think each checkmark counts as a vote. If multiple checks are placed for each option polled, it might work out that way.
